Program and Faculty

The Program

The Medical Imaging Physics Residency Program is homed within the Department of Medical Physics. The University of Wisconsin-Madison’s Medical Physics Department boasts the largest such department in the country with 80 faculty and over 90 students.

The department is centered within the Wisconsin Institute for Medical Research and located on a healthcare campus that includes: the main University Hospital, the VA Hospital, and the American Family Children’s Hospital.

A core group of 14 clinical and health physicists from Medical Physics and UW-Health departments provide our residents with hands-on training at the University Hospital and other regional hospitals and clinics. Residents also have the opportunity to work with other faculty and staff from the Department of Medical Physics and other UW-Health departments.

Medical imaging physics residents will work with state-of-the art clinical and research systems including a ring-shaped digital SPECT/CT, PET/MRI, and photon-counting CT in addition to the many imaging systems of all modalities to be expected for a large academic medical center and regional health system.

Residents will have the opportunities to teach, observe clinical procedures, and interact with radiologists relating to clinical interpretation. There will be opportunities to connect with radiology residents, and residents will be expected to attend departmental conferences and clinical grand rounds.
