“Visualizing solutions for accurate diagnosis and treatment”
Mission Statement of the UW Department of Medical Physics:
To conduct basic and translational research that will lead to new applications of physics for diagnosis and treatment of disease…
… by focusing on medical imaging, radiotherapy, biomagnetism, and radiation metrology. We are committed to develop tools and methods that will benefit patients in our community and worldwide. Our research themes are strongly aligned with improving treatment precision using localized and minimally invasive therapies that will improve personal patient outcomes.
To train new generations of medical physicists…
…who will conduct research, provide professional physics service, and teach in health care facilities, laboratories and training centers throughout the world, continuing a tradition of excellence in science and service.
To provide core instruction in medical physics…
… to medical students, residents, medical technologists and other students throughout the UW campus and worldwide, required to conduct high quality multidisciplinary research and perform state-of-the-art clinical practice.
To provide medical physics service to our clinics and community...
… by working with UW health care providers, such as radiation oncology, radiology, cardiology, and neurosurgery, to assure excellent patient care with advanced diagnostic and therapeutic equipment and techniques. We work with multiple professional organizations and host the accredited Radiation Calibration Laboratory to improve patient care and safety nationally and internationally.
