Travel Updates for Spring 2021

An update has been made to travel restrictions, effective immediately. Faculty, staff, graduate students, and undergraduate students participating in in-person research and/or instructional activities may now take single-day trips (no overnights) using ground transportation without prior approval.

Trips that involve airfare or overnight lodging (both in-state and out of state) must still submit an Essential Travel Exemption Form. These must be signed by your Dean or Vice-Chancellor (in this case Dean Golden), before being sent to Carla Fischer (csfischer@wisc.edu). These forms are for Essential Travel only.

The UW has defined Essential Travel as: For purposes of this interim guidance, essential travel is defined as supporting activities that support, further, or execute research or clinical operations specific to human health and medical outcomes, cannot be rescheduled, and must be done in person.

Keep in mind that all travelers must adhere to current campus health protocols when traveling. This includes:
Wearing a face covering when riding in a vehicle with others
• Keeping vehicle occupancy to 50% (ie. 2 people in a 4 person vehicle)
• Making sure all vehicle occupants have a Green Badger Badge
Not going into work (or on the trip) if you feel ill or have a positive Covid Test

These new guidelines are great news for anyone traveling for research purposes. Keep watching this blog for updates as restrictions on travel may change.

Stay safe!
