The Relationship Between Science and Technology
T. Rockwell Mackie, PhD.
Professor Emeritus, Department of Medical Physics, UW-School of Medicine & Public Health, Madison, WI - USA
In this talk, I will examine the relationship between science and technology applied to radiation oncology. I will argue that we are now largely borrowers of technology from other fields. This has made our field richer. However, one can contend that professionalisation is reducing innovation made by medical physicists. In this context, perhaps our field has to go the way of other professionalised medical fields and rely on industry and a few major research universities to supply innovation.
