Medical Physics 3.0 and future directions for radiotherapy clinical medical physics

Todd Pawlicki, PhD, FAAPM, FASTRO
This presentation will begin with a description of the background and current status of the AAPM Medical Physics 3.0 initiative, which is directed towards enhancing the full value of physics towards human health. The presentation will then transition to a focus on clinical medical physics in radiotherapy. Using a systems theory-based safety assessment approach, the safety profile of a combined linear accelerator and treatment planning system (Halcyon) is assessed and used to develop a new and potentially more impactful role for clinical medical physicists. The transition strategy and early experience of implementing this role will be described.
