Fluorescence Guided Surgery: Background, Perspectives, and Current Research

Adam Uselmann, PhD
CTO, President, Co-founder of OnLume Surgical
Fluorescence guided surgery (FGS) is a rapidly growing approach that enables real-time intraoperative visualization of tissue function and type through the use of fluorescent agents paired with specialized imaging systems. Applications include functional assessment of blood perfusion, anatomy identification to prevent iatrogenic injury, cancer margin assessment, and localization of multi-focal tumors. This talk will review the technical background of FGS, key considerations from the hardware, software, and imaging agent perspectives, current research progress, and future directions for the field.
